Communicating in code. Great for those just in case emergencies when you know others may be listening, but you want to still have a private conversation.

Remember during world war II that the US used the Navajo language to communicate so the Nazi's wouldn't know what we were saying? Yes, only you make up your own language and key words. For numbers you can go backwards from 50. Like 50 means 1. So forth. For wording, well you can figure that out and just make up words for each thing that is most important to describe so nobody else knows what you are talking about.

Encryption is the oldest form of secrecy to hide communication from the enemy or from prying ears. N.S.A hates when people talk code, use high encryptions on the Internet and they really hate it when you make up your own language since they will never figure out what it means. =)

The cool thing is you can have two words mean the same thing. So every other month you use the other word so nobody really catches on. Just place it in a sentence and one word can mean in itself, meet at the big rock at 7 p.m. and the word is "weather".

So a sentence would be, "We have some bad weather coming in." Well, the word weather is telling a whole sentence in itself. Meet at the big rock at 7 p.m. Which nobody even knows which big rock to go to, only you and your buddy knows.

Another would be the word reception. Reception could mean "I need a bazooka over here".
In a sentence: I have bad reception here. Means get me some backup and a bazooka right away. In sorts.

Anyway, have fun with that and its a True Encryption to keep your words private and anyone who listens won't know what you are saying.

Also for those who are HAM's you also know if you stay on too long, someone else can find your location. So can the military or anyone else. So short bursts of communication with Code words are important. That one sentence that is coded can mean a whole paragraph when coded. To make sure they got the message, all they have to do is say "Roger". That is so quick nobody can trace the calls and cannot find the location where they came from. Then its radio silence until someone has another coded message, they say one sentence and then a return Roger, that should be it. Total privacy, total secrecy and untraceable.

God Bless.

Since the FCC does not allow Amateur Radio Operators to use encryption, this is the perfect way to share simple, short messages. This was in-fact used to inform the underground in WWII Europe. When we are face-to-face, we should choose some standard words and phrases for emergencies. Also, if TSHTF, in addition to short messages, remember to use the lowest power necessary to communicate, use a hand-held radio from a different location each time if possible, and never use an identifying "handle" (name) that bad guys could use to locate you.

BTW, the Navajo Code Talkers only worked in the Pacific theater and never directly against the Nazi's. Granted, Tojo did have the German Enigma machine for their message traffic.

Thanks a bunch, WeSurvive and Paul, for a timely reminder. I agree that we should move this up the priority "to do" list!
The next time I see either of you in person, we can discuss this more. The last year or more this has been on my mind, and as you know from recent events it has scooted up to the forefront of priorities. The book series, Deep Winter and Shatter had some excellent code references from which we could start in developing our own. And now for any govt. watcher friends, this is for protection from looter mobs if you have read the above mentioned books. If you have not read them, you should. You will see that group, like us, was ready and able in assisting local law enforcement and the military in the chaos after a catastrophic earthquake and economic collapse...jpf

Exactly, for instance a good example is if someone is bringing food to a camp filled full of people and of course any criminal group who is smart enough will try and figure out where they can obtain supplies from and steal it from the others for themselves or to sell to the highest bidder.

In Haiti that is exactly what happened in January of this year. The criminal mobs took over all the food and water supplies the Aid workers brought in. They were not nice about it either, the criminals actually hacked up people with Machetes and stole the food in which thousands died at the hands of just the Criminals and those who went without starved and had large cases of diseases in their camps. So low profile communication is essential, even for Law Enforcement and workers who are trying to help others with Food and water. So it is also essential for survivalists to use low code words to keep any criminals from finding where the food and water is so they cannot steal it.

Just because there is not enough Law Enforcement to be at every place at the same time, the people will have to depend on their own skills and survival techniques to ensure the safety of themselves, their families and the people they are trying to help. Just as any Police force would. Especially in mountainous areas or areas out in the Country, some areas take hours to reach and safety is the main concern and priority. That is just learning from the past and using common sense to know what happens during any large disaster.
