Evacuation Measures

Just a few tips and someone can always add onto them.

What ever the disaster may be and you have to leave your home.

Grab the essentials food, water and a temporary shelter. You may not make it to your desired destination, so have a tent or something you can make into a tent to take along. (Even if car or truck windows get broken out with flying debris you can drape it over the vehicle to stay dry.)

IF you have these things you most likely will want to take them along.

A plan for a destination. Preplan where you will go, where your family will meet, what to do if they can't get there and who's place to run to. Plan to pick the kids up at school or to meet them at a certain safe location if you show up late. (keep in mind, traffic will be nuts.)
Plan for alternative routes to travel that will have less traffic. Back roads, through fields if need be, etc. Stay off the main roads as much as possible. Also if it is that bad, expect Martial Law and you may have to slip past a few check points or blockades. All roads may be blocked by police and military, so find those routes to get out. (Fields, across ditches on foot, waterways, etc.)

A bug out bag or backpack should be filled and ready to at any minutes notice with some of these items (those things you have to grab should be in a large bag or already in the vehicle).

A water filter.

A magnifying glass. (Fire starter that lasts a lifetime during daytime.) Costs a buck.

Dried food that is packaged or canned. (Other canned food or anything else you just throw in.)

Granola bars. A few boxes can go a long way when used properly. (Organic, cliff bars.)

Some fishing line, hooks and sinkers. Bait can be found anywhere (bugs, worms, anything small and shiny works too).

A knife, if you forget, find a sharp rock to use as a knife.

(Guns if you have them for protection, keep the family and things safe from looters or end day doomers who want to do bad things to your family.)

Medical kit (Even a cheap car emergency kit will at least be something or put one together.)

Blankets, (Solar blankets and sleeping bags too). Army blankets are just as good and warm.

A roll of tin foil. (Can be used to make a quick solar cooker.) Fires make smoke, sometimes you don't want to be noticed when off the road to avoid military/police or looters.

A couple small camping pans to cook on and eat out of. Along with camping forks and spoons, even a knife or two.

Gold and silver for trading. Money is good as long as it is still good and accepted. Be ready to trade gold or silver for things you may need.

5 or 10 gallons of extra gas on hand, since gas stations will not be open and you will need fuel.
(Also take a siphon hose so you can get free fuel from vacant military/police vehicles or abandoned vehicles along the way when you need to. Leave a tip of you want with a note if you are that worried.) Make sure those gas cans don't leak, it sucks getting a headache when they do leak. (Hose won't go down their gas tank hole? Look underneath and cut the filler line under where you would fill the gas tank, then put your siphon hose in there and it will make it a lot easier.) Then fill one 5 gallon gas can and while you are filling up your vehicle with one gas can, the other is filling full of gas and get a full tank so you can keep going. Hey, don't forget your siphon hose, you will need it later on too.

Be prepared to switch vehicles. Sometimes your vehicle may break down or if you are on foot and you see a pretty nice military vehicle just sitting there and no one is driving it, you should use it after all its paid with your tax dollars and you do own it. Just make sure there is no soldiers around to argue about it with you. When it comes to Federal or Military, you paid for it so what is yours is yours and what is theirs is yours as well.

Simple, but effective. The less stuff you have to load up, the faster you get going.

Anyone can add to this.
You Must Survive. So prepare for it.

Bsosc members should have at least a small, daypack version of their bug out bag in each vehicle.

Disasters do not give 24 hour notice, hold off while your on vacation or running around town. They also are not stopped because you're still waiting for your order from the freeze dry guy or intended to pick up stuff at the sos general store.
