Howdy All,
I recently read an interesting article on precious metals in the Miles Franklin free precious metals newsletter of 01/31/13 which gave the definition of "normalcy bias". This subject of entrapment of the minds of the masses has been discussed at a number of our BSOSC meetings and how we can all be prepared to deal with those of this dis-ease of those who feel all is well in all places in all things. The definition given of normalcy bias pretty much says it all:

Normalcy Bias: The normalcy bias, or normality bias, refers to a mental state people enter when facing a disaster. It causes people to underestimate both the possibility of a disaster occurring and its possible effects. This often results in situations where people fail to adequately prepare for a disaster, and on a larger scale, the failure of governments to include the populace in its disaster preparations. The assumption that is made in the case of the normalcy bias is that since a disaster never has occurred then it never will occur. It also results in the inability of people to cope with a disaster once it occurs. People with a normalcy bias have difficulties reacting to something they have not experienced before. People also tend to interpret warnings in the most optimistic way possible, seizing on any ambiguities to infer a less serious situation.

I say it is the real pandemic because evidently 97+% of the US population falls into this category as it is estimated that less than 3% are preppers. This represents a serious potential threat to the small minority of preppers, thus the importance of having a plan developed on how you intend to compassionately as possible, but firmly deal with that 97+% that may come knocking or kicking on your door in the event of a disastrous collapse. Plan now on who and how you intend to help them. Plan your action and act on your plan. Get Prepared!!!...jpf
