Blast Resistant Walls, Certainly High Caliber Bullet Proof

Howdy All,
In a posting by WeSurvive, he requested some information from me on the 3-D Tridipanel construction system we do in our co., http://www.wildcreteinternational.com. I will answer in red text within his info request where he said:

Also, what kind of bullet resistance do the forms have? The bullet resistance is determined by the configuration. When we first started with these in 2006, we went down to Cabo San Lucas, to see some. These were high end homes for entertainers, politicos, etc. They would set double walls with each set of 3-D panels spaced one to two feet apart. The inner space between them were filled with concrete in some cases for defense, left as an air chamber for even greater insulating capacity, etc. We feel the inner cavity could be filled with gravel and sand with great effect. We approach this from the hardened building perspective. In this case you want the walls to flex when subjected to blast or earthquake forces. The 2"x2" wire meshed with cross-through welded truss wires at opposing 30 degree angles create a literal mesh mish-mash when subjected to heavy impact that highly resists being pulled apart after it is shotcreted. We really beef up the shotcrete concrete compressive strength with our http://www.wildfibre.com fiber product based on the bone-shaped fiber technology developed at Los Alamos National Lab. Wildfibre has undergone extensive testing at the world leading blast resistant fiber reinforced concrete testing facility at the University of British Columbia under the direction of Dr. Nemi Banthia, a chair of the ACI (American Concrete Institute) and other global positions. I won't go into tons of detail here, but Dr. Banthia has done impressive testing in which straight concrete slabs reinforced with Wildfibre bend with an incredible amount of deflection in resisting breaking. Obviously, this is a major plus for our shotcrete in constructing hardened, blast-resistant buildings. A real informative youtube video on 3-D panels is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01eTWwSSQYA&NR=1. When there, you can see a listing of numerous other videos.

If they can withstand some heavy caliber bullets, it would make a good bullet proof wall for a safe room too. Absolutely! We have built a safe room with the panels complete with NBC air filtration system and vault door which is set with deep anchor bolts into solid concrete where we melt out the foam to fill the door frame anchoring surround with sold, Wildfibre reinforced concrete. Have you tested it for bullet proof? No, we have been so busy with other projects, we have not done so, but maybe you are spurring us on to go ahead and do some testing. Now if we can get one of our friends with a 50 BMG rifle to spend that expensive ammo to shoot into some test samples! If so, hope you post that also on the posting of bullet proof rooms. Of course, we would be glad to do so. Would be great for others to know that and maybe order from you. We would do everything we could to save costs to preppers wanting to build a structure with 3-D panels. We may possibly be able to arrange direct shipment from the factory which would represent a large savings. There is a lot of good info at the factory website if you want to learn more. The URL is http://www.tridipanel.com.mx/contents/ingles/index.htm. A few forms wouldn't cost a whole lot more than some plywood and other wood listed in the thread, I would rather go with your idea. I will not pretend that 3-D panel construction is as cheap as wood frame construction, but then that would be like comparing king crab with sardines! There is a lot of work, but not too difficult for the DIY handyman. You could even get by with a homeowner grade concrete mixer and trowels, not having to have big pumps like we use. You could even get by with hand hog ring guns for a personal project rather than the pricey pneumatic ones like we have to use. I think the photo scroll on our website, http://www.wildcreteinternational.com, gives a pretty good showing of work in progress on some of our projects. If only we could get time to dedicate to the website, we have a bunch more cool stuff we could show. Great Stuff, I am hooked.
I am as happy as a woodpecker on a ripe tree. =) It always makes us happy in knowing we really did not have a problem, only a solution opportunity to discover the solution. My family and crew grow weary of me always saying there is no such thing as a problem, just a solution opportunity, so go to work on discovering it!
